In 2024, two passionate and highly skilled professionals from distinct areas of the construction industry came together with a shared vision: to build not only enduring structures, but meaningful and lasting relationships with clients, employees, and the communities they serve.
Big Timber Construction was founded by co-founders Mike and Max, who each spent years working for established construction firms and gained firsthand insight into the challenges and limitations common within the industry. Through this experience, they identified a recurring lack of personalized service, transparency, and consistent quality—gaps they set out to change.
With a commitment to craftsmanship, clear communication, and integrity, Big Timber Construction was built on the belief that successful projects begin with trust and are delivered through collaboration, accountability, and attention to detail.
Max Willard, one of Big Timber Construction’s founding members, brings a deep-rooted passion and highly specialized expertise in marine construction. Over the course of his career, Max has worked on high-profile coastal and waterfront projects, including piers, docks, and complex shoreline infrastructure. Through this hands-on experience, he developed a strong appreciation for the precision, planning, and respect for the environment that marine construction demands.
Max’s understanding of tidal zones, shoreline conditions, and environmental regulations allows Big Timber Construction to approach waterfront projects with confidence and care. His experience working with specialized marine materials and equipment ensures that each project is not only structurally sound, but thoughtfully designed to withstand the unique challenges of water-based environments.
This specialized knowledge, paired with the team’s diverse construction background, has shaped Big Timber Construction into a trusted partner for complex marine and waterfront work—capable of delivering durable, high-quality results while maintaining a collaborative and transparent experience for every client.
Mike Calder, a key partner in the formation of Big Timber Construction, brings a well-rounded, hands-on background spanning coastal, land-based, commercial, and commercial infrastructure construction. He began his career by founding Edgewater Construction, an electrical contracting company known for precision, reliability, and high-quality workmanship, with a strong focus on waterfront and marine projects.
In addition to his marine electrical expertise, Mike has extensive experience in land construction, commercial and commercial infrastructure projects, along with cement work and operating heavy equipment in complex environments. His broad skill set, adaptability, and practical understanding of construction across diverse settings make him an integral part of Big Timber Construction’s ability to deliver coordinated, built-to-last projects on land and water alike.
Big Timber Construction was established when Max and Mike identified a growing need for a construction company that focused on quality craftmanship, integrity, and delivering exceptional customer service. Both have worked with and/or managed architects, engineers, city reviewers, inspectors, and skilled tradespeople. Driven by their shared knowledge and abilities, they decided to start their own venture, aiming to redefine what clients could expect from a construction partner.
From the very beginning, Big Timber Construction set out to fill a gap in the market by offering a comprehensive approach to residential, commercial, and industrial construction projects. Today, Big Timber Construction stands as a trusted name in the industry. What began as a small start-up has blossomed into a growing company with a portfolio of successful projects.
